Relevant EXPERIENCE
To be a Tax Agent, alongside academic qualifications, relevant experience is required:
With tertiary qualifications in accounting: 12 months of full-time experience. This generally translates to 2 years of full-time work.
Diploma or higher in accounting: 2 years of full-time experience. This generally translates to 3-4 years of full-time work.
Sign off by a Tax Agent: Once you have completed you required experience, we sign off your tax agent licence with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Generally you require a degree or diploma in accounting, law, or a related discipline from an Australian tertiary institution.
Board Approved Courses:
You may need to take additional courses which include:
Tax Law: Income tax, capital gains tax, GST, FBT, tax administration, superannuation, and other aspects of tax law.
Commercial Law: The Australian legal system, contract law, business structures, property law, and other commercial law areas.
Ethics and Professional Responsibility: Learn about ethical decision making, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and your responsibilities as a registered agent.
